One of the most popular sights of the Elsaß, located on a foothill 757m a.s.l. of the Vogese Mountains.
The fortress was built during the 12th century, renovated around1480, burned down during the 30-year war and finally rebuilt in the style of a knights`fortress of the 15th ct. by Kaiser Wilhelm II.
On the way to the fortress you come pass the Volerie des Aigles = eagle observatory (www.badenpage.de/alsace/volerie_des_aigles/) at the Chateau Kintzheim (flying shows of the birds of prey are in the afternoons) and - a special and very exciting experience for kids - The Monkey Forest (Montagne des Singes). More than 300 monkeys live in a forest surrounded by a fence where you can walk through.
